MATCH REPORT

East Kilbride FC 2 - 0 Stirling University
by Amy MacMillan

Kilby maintained their 100% performance rate this season after a 2-0 win against the University of Stirling. Earning their revenge after a previous 2-0 defeat in the final game of last season, the Lowland League leaders are now 5 points clear at the top of the table.

An early goal from Craig Malcolm put Kilby into the lead just 5 minutes in. BJ Coll delivered a superb ball into the box and Malcolm headered it home, putting EK in good spirits for the rest of the match.

The entertaining start to the first half continued as Stevenson whipped in a great cross from the right hand side that Reid headered right into the back of the net in the 20th minute to double the advantage.

McNeil came close to adding to the lead just before half time after latching on to a long ball over the top, but his strike was straight at the keeper who knocked it wide for a corner.

After barley threatening in the first half, Stirling started the second half in more determined fashion, keeping the EK back-line on their toes.

Some impressive link up play from Kilby seen Woods one on one with the keeper, but his shot hit off the post.

Stirling got a chance at their first goal of the match as Blair Lyons shot from 25 yards, but his effort was well held by McGinley in the EK goal.

With a quarter of the game to go, McGinley got down well to keep the clean sheet intact as Stirling’s Mailor watched his effort well-saved.

Minutes later, Lyons had another effort at goal for Stirling but his shot sailed wide of the target.

Just before the full time whistle, Longworth struck at goal but his shot went straight into Allan’s hands in the Stirling goal.

After extending their winning streak to 6 games, confidence in the East Kilbride dressing room is appears high. Gaffer, Brian Kerr, was naturally delighted with how the players are performing in the Lowland League campaign, commenting, “The first 45 minutes was excellent, second 45 minutes could’ve been better, they were always going to come out and half a go at us, but we are delighted to pick up another three points”
